Hi folks,

Would u pls advice me how to open the existing database files by tracing through windows Explorer. Or is it impossible to open the files thru any other path other than the enterprise manager window and getting into ur databases?.

Cheerio,

SQL Server is not a flat file based database system. You can't browse the files. You need Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer, osql.exe or any other capable tool.

Actually you need sql server to access them.
Well you can probably use a hex editor to look at the files and maybe decipher them.
I started an article on the structure of the files but decided that I might not be able to do it because I didn't know enough about the ijitial pionters and that it probably wasn't a worthwhile excercise.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

Well yes...I assumed, probably incorrectly, that the files were attached to SQL Server already.
