Hey all,

Well, after a couple of timed-out seaches, I figured I'd just open a topic to try and find out - do you or don't you?

Have you got regularly scheduled reboots for SQL Servers?
Specifically SQL 2000 (sp3) on Windows 2000 (sp3), but in general, for you environment as well?
Is that "old-school" thinking?

Scheduled reboots of SQL Server is not a good idea since you will get a negative performance impact after the reboot occurs until SQL Server regains the memory it needs. I've seen it take a couple of hours to catch up, which is visible using PerfMon. So reboots should only happen when necessary for maintenance like software installations that require reboots or as an emergency.

nope, we don't do reboots unless needed and during scheduled maintenance.

Seems to be a general consensus, then.

Thanks for the feedback

No scheduled reboots here either. Reboots for our SQL Server are pretty rare.
