I'm getting DNS errors ...

Opportunity for Graz to charge for some consultancy ...

OTOH we host a web site for the Oracle User Group ... using SQL Server (I believe they couldn't afford the Oracle licence!)

I'm already in that department, so I've heard all about it. I was in a different department, but they combined us with the other DBAs a few months ago. Some of the Oracle DBAs presented at Oracle World last month.

On OracleTeam.com, I take it you guys haven't seen Mark's post from about 8 months ago?

They gonna cross train you? And are they talking about migrating?

Worlds apart.. I think it was easier for me because of the mainframe background....

painful is about as nice as I can put it....but powerful...

I mean if I don't understand SQL Sevrer internals...Oracle...forget it...

Dynamically open and closing cursors.....reference cursors...sql plus.....nested tables...haven't seen 9i

let's just say, anyone who can't cut the EM umbilical cord, wouldn't have a chance...talk about command line

Huh?

If you mean the Oracle references...ok...

How about %TYPE, where you don't even have to define the input parameters of a sproc...they're inherited...lot's of cool...180 degrees from sql server ...

The link is working fine Jon. I can't believe you can't get to it. Must be something wrong with your internet access. Have you checked your firewall rules?

Tara, that was a brilliant article on there btw. I couldn't believe how well you explained it.

I hated Oracle when we supported it. Obviously our clients dd too 'coz one by one they switched to MS SQL. Except one. They switched to a different vendor; their IT wanted their deparmtent to switch to MS SQL, it went something like this:

Client's IT : "Vendor oviously supports MS SQL well with other clients, we are the only Oracle user, not surprising their service to us is crap, we in IT now support MS SQL for numerous other projects"

Client : "We're not doing all that testing stuff all over again"

<thud>
