I was wondering how many on this forum are running 64 bit SQL and what the experience has been like... - How much more costly is it in $$, effort, new problems to address? - Other than more horses, what problem did 64 bit solve? - I assume 32 bit is the dominant installation. Any thoughts on the percentage of servers out there running 64 bit? - Is the adoption rate for 64 bit increasing? - Is pro wrestling fixed? |

HEY HEY HEY, the proper term is "When dinosaurs change over time".More on that here:http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/01/30/striking.evolution.ap/http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/01/30/georgia.evolution/http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/01/13/evolution.textbooks.ruling/Sorry about the threadjacking, ask me how glad I am my tax dollars pay that bimbo's salary...and I don't even have kids in the GA school system (thank GOD! love the irony of that) You gotta admit, the GA board of ed. members are their own best example that evolution is not a fact. I'll shut up now.Anyway, 64-bit gets you one huge plus besides CPU power, and that is memory availability. No more 4 GB limit or AWE extensions. I think Win64 will support 512GG to 1TB of RAM. We are getting a new AMD 64 bit server at work and will probably go with 32 bit for the time being, but moving up to 64 bit in the software is a huge plus with that architecture, and it'll be essentially free. From the specs I've seen, performance in 64-bit is 50% or better over 32-bit, all else being equal. |

You know you've been programming too long when your first thought is, "Huh? Why would someone doing Genetic Algorithms not like evolution?" |

I thought SQL Server 2000 (64 bit) was for the Itanic. Don't we have to wait until SQL Server 2005 for something that supports Windows x64 properly? |

I'd guess if Graz did a survey on the SQLTeam home page, 99% of the responses would be 32 bit... |
