Could not connect to the database

I can't seem to get it running on the server, mysqld-nt doesn't seem to ever run in the background! When I reinstalled SQL, I got a similiar error to the above.

Please help! What could be causing it. I have the newest version of SQL, and there is no firewall.

I forgot, I am using remote desktop to set it up on the server, not sure if that's an issue.

I also get pretty much the same error from the SQL command line client itself.

I'm using windows 2000.

Yes, how easy would it be to use MS Sql instead of MySQL, and can I convert a database?
