I created a DB on the server. i would like to make a copy of it (structure and data) on my local machine to play with. Then i try using the wizard i get this error:Your SQL Server Service is running under the local account. You need to change your SQL Server Service account to have rights to copy over the net work.Where do I go to change my rights to copy over the net work?

The easiest way to make a copy is to backup the source, copy it to your local, then restore on your local using the copied file.Tara Kizer

I used the backup wizard and made a backup to c:\temp. Now I would like to either -restore the files into an existing database on my local or - simply restore the backed up database into my local. When I right click on my local database folder and select all tasks then restore database I can not navigate to the backup I made in c:\temp. If this is not the right approach how do I accomplish this?

C:\temp is most likely on the database server, so you need to copy the file over first. When you do the restore on your local, you may need to go to second tab of the restore wizard to specify new locations for the MDF and LDF files.Tara Kizer

C:\temp is most likely on the database server, so you need to copy the file over first. Not sure what you mean? I have a SQL running localy on my comp. The source database on the neteork server was backed up to my local machine to c:\temp. What would i need to copy and where? When you do the restore on your local, you may need to go to second tab of the restore wizard to specify new locations for the MDF and LDF files. In the restore wizard the second tab is Options. On that tab i see no options to enter or navigate to new locations. ?

Are you sure about that? When you use the wizard via Enterprise Manager to do the backup, the drives and folders available are for the server where the database exists and not your local machine. Open up Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Temp on your location machine. Notice how the backup file doesn't exist there. It exists on the server where the backup was taken. You'll see what options to change in the Options tab once you have a file to restore.Tara Kizer |

You are right. The .bak file was saved to the servers C: drive. I copied it onto my local comp. into the server backup directory. Tthere was a backup in there already from an earler database i made. In the restore wizard i see the original backup file. but i still don't see the one i coppied in. Nor has anythinf been enabled for me to navigate to it. Is there something else i need to do?

Here is what i tryed and the steps i took....Backup:1. Running SQL Enterprise Manager locally I can see my local server and the server on the remote box (in the other room). 2. I right click on the Databases folder of the remote server and choose All Tasks then Backup database.3. On the backup dialog I select the database I want, complete and the destination is c:\Temp on the remote server.4. The backup completes with out error.5. When I look in the c:\ on the remote server I see the .bak file. I copy this to my local drive C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\BACKUP6. Back in my local SQL Enterprise Manager I right click on the Databases folder of the local server and choose All Tasks then Restore database. (I have created a database with the exact same name as the database I backed up from the remote server.)7. I enter the existing database name in the Restore as, select Database.8. In the Parameters box I select the name of the remote backup I copied to my local.9. In the grid below there is nothing displayed.10. When I click the options tab the grid there is also blank. There are no controls that allow me to navigate to the .bak file. (A backup file I made earlier of a local database does appear when I select that name in the show backups of.)A second thing I tried was coping:1. Running SQL Enterprise Manager locally can see my local server and the server on the remote box (in the other room). 2. I right click on the Databases folder of the local server and choose All Tasks then Copy database wizard. 3. I select the remote server as the source.4. I select the default (local) as the destination.5. I immediately get this error - Your SQL Server Service is running under the local account. You need to change your SQL Server Service account to have rights to copy over the net work. One of these two methods should work. Where am I missing the boat? Is there some set up I messed…?
