How about leather then?

EXEC access only....then there is no question about what's going on...dynamic access to a db?

No thanks

damage control

if you've given a bunch of tasks and milestones to achieve within very limited amount of time and keep worrying what will happen until you have implemented a new system, there are things that can be done like triggers that will prevent oldies from shouting in one ear and bosses in the other one

until you reach dba nirvana, you can only do so much

DBAs should be allowed to shoot one deserving developer each year, just like hunters are allowed to shoot one deer each year.

The world would be a better place.

There's just so much wrong with this one, that I don't know where to begin. Denormalized table, trigger designed for only one row, multiple stored procedure calls for each row, datatype errors, etc.

I had the same thought (ughh - where to begin), I decided not to respond (several times) to that thread but after Peter took the plunge I decided to try and address the first few issues that came to mind. Holy cow what a mess!

I was thinking of suggesting that he add the WITH RECOMPILE option to the stored procedure he is calling from the trigger, but I wasm't feeling quite evil enough.

I hesitated first and my first opinion was to address the possibility of a mulitple rows insert scenario...

I can't imagine what could possibly go wrong with this idea:

insert data to MSSQL within trigger from Oracle

I'd rather see people go overboard with cursors than triggers.

At least a cursor's easy to see. And cursors can generally only screw up linearly. Triggers have a very high potential for exponential-growth screwups.

On the topic of shooting users, that's entirely less dramatic than it should be. Louisville Slugger. Because those aluminum bats are dangerous.

if i'm not mistaken he is one of the founders of SqlTeam.
he cooked it all up and Graz then dealt the SQL crack

Oh, much simpler than that.

I cook. Cookies, gumbo, jamblaya, steaks, pasta, pie. Just about anything. I just started smoking brisket and ribs actually.

Graz doesn't cook. First time I was at his house to cook something he (true story) didn't have a salt shaker. Asked him where the salt was...got a blank look. So when we have a get-together at his place, I bring everything: pots, pans, knives, ingredients, and everything. He provides beer. I think it's a fair trade, and so does he.

I'm disappointed that nobody's asked why aluminum baseball bats are dangerous.
