Disha writes "MS SQL SERVER 6.5 ON WINDOWS NT 4.0
I have a table which has a column with image datatype.
The body (text) of an incoming mail is stored in this column.
Based on certain where clause, i wish to extract the body(text) AND INSERT it into another column of another table with datatype as varchar.
how to do it?

Else how to read the text of this image datatype?
please note that by giving the correct where clause, the text which i would like to read from this column is not bigger than 255 characters."

can't convert image to varchar.
You can convert via binary though.

convert(varchar(255),convert(varbinary(255),imagefield))

what you end up with will depend on the data that is in the image.
