Can't understand why people thought the Sweden draw was a good thing for England.
Just leaves more teams in therace for second spot.

I'm rooting for the San Diego Chargers. Oh wait, this is a different kind of football.

I've Tivo'ed every match so far. I've watched about 5 games so far. My Tivo is so full. I'd better take a few days off just to watch this cup. I love soccer! Unlike most other Americans.

How can you call it football, if the ball doesn’t have points on each end, or at least have an oval shape?

Tara it's a good job you didn't mention this before you were married. Every male football fans dream woman I think

Are you supporting the USA? They don't have a bad team.

In our house it's my wife who's the big footy fan - she even bought the dog an england shirt! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/England-Dog-Football-T-shirt-Red-XL-Last-one_W0QQitemZ7774964253QQcategoryZ20743QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Michael you're getting confused with Rugby

Not sure Germany will get to the final they don't seem to be playing much better than England.

I reckon Argentina - Brazil in the final (or the Ukraine - guess who I got in the sweep)

Ukraine got beat by spain 4:0. i don't think they stand a chance.

Oh that American football.... please.... rugby on steroids.... with additions...

England got very lucky yesterday if you ask me... T&T rocked!

But i guess that all of the "favorites" are holding a bit back.

Brazilian coach put it well:
"We'll beat Croatia with 40% strength, because we're saving 100% for the finals!"

oh and BTW Croatia : Brazil was the best game yet IMHO.
Tara definitly watch it.

I agree we were lucky (with the first one at least) - was asleep for some of it. T&T didn't deserve that scoreline though Gerrards goal was a cracker)

Tara just watch the last 10 minutes

As for Spain - they were lucky

If Brazil win do they get to keep the trophy (again!). It used to be that if you won it three times you kept the trophy but I don't know if they changed that now that Brazil have won 5 times

My point exactly. In baseball, you don’t play the ball with a base. In basketball, you don’t play the ball with a basket.

Kidding aside,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_%28word%29
"While it is widely believed that the word football, or "foot ball", originated in reference to the action of a foot kicking a ball, this may be a false etymology. There is a rival explanation, which has it that the word originally referred to a variety of games in medieval Europe, which were played on foot.[1] These sports were usually played by peasants, as opposed to the horse-riding sports more often played by aristocrats. This explanation is supported by the fact that the word football has always implied a variety of wide games played on foot, not just those that involved kicking a ball. In fact, in some cases, the word has been applied to games which involved carrying a ball and specifically banned kicking. "

"Kickball" is already taken. It's similar to softball but you kick an inflated rubber ball, instead of batting.

I'm patriotic, so I support the USA. I do like Argentina though. Their triangles are the best that I've seen so far.

I don't think anyone past 4th grade uses the word "kickball" anymore. Maybe parents of 4th graders do. One of the cool things about playing kickball was that you could specify your pitch style...I was a "slow and bouncy" man, myself. :)

Another good thing about kickball was you could get a base runner out by hitting them with the ball. There was nothing like pegging some girl in the back of the head while she was rounding third base. Rest assured that now that I'm well past 4th grade I've cut back on that considerably.

Spirit I hope you're going to eat those words now!

I remember once as an undergraduate looking at dictionary definitions where you start at a word and look at the definition, then look at the definition of that word ... (ad nauseum) and see how many hops it takes to get back to the original word.

I wonder if we could work out something like that for the Yak Corral threads. i.e. see how long it takes to get back to the original topic after the thread has diverged. Sounds like an interesting query to me Certainly far more interesting that watching England being humiliated yet again
