I found a new article written in the future. Today is May 25 and the article is written June 1 so perhaps the writer knowns things not yet public?quote: If the server and the database properly configured and maintained, the DBA or developer doesn't have to worry about locking or at least very, very rarely.
Source here.

If debugging is the process of removing software bugs, then programming must be the process of putting them in. |

Twit Summary: I rely on things being ordered without relying on orderby? Exec Summary: sometimes things aren't ordered how you like if you don't use orderby?
This: "You need to have an explicit ORDER BY clause if you need the data to be ordered according to clustered index with the NOLOCK hint." should really just be: "You need to have an explicit ORDER BY clause if you need the data to be ordered."

I commented yesterday. Comment is still sitting 'waiting moderation'.
At a guess, this is another author who doesn't tolerate dissenting opinions

It was claiming that if you wanted order by the clustering index key then you only needed order by if nolock was used.

Does Celko just drop by to insult a random poster as an excuse to post signature spam for his books?
http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=162155
How is this load of BS helpful to any one, except as a spam vector? http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=162162 "I had posted a history of the infixed notation from my ANSI X3H2 days and I don't feel like looking for it right now. The difference is "syntactic sugar" and they will both compile to the same plan. We had to define the [LEFT | FULL | RIGHT] OUTER JOIN as an infixed operator for mathematical reasons. It then became easy to define INNER JOIN, OUTER UNION and a bunch of other features in the same paper. So we did! Committee are like that ..
Weaker SQL programmers use INNER JOIN, since it is sequential and a familiar, procedural infix binary operator. Stronger SQL programmers use the WHERE syntax because it is set-oriented, obeys the law of proximity and is an n-ary operator. Again, I have the details but basically, it is the mindset of someone who write with a + and someone who writes with a Capital Sigma when they add sets of values."

Isn't that blasphemy? Isn't Joe a kind of god?

No, you're never too old to Yak'n'Roll if you're too young to die. |
