is the other system still online?

If it is, you can run a stored procedure from microsoft that will script out all the users (even the hashed passwords are included).

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/246133/

I think Derrick Leggett modified this stored procedure to also script out the default database. I'll do a quick search for that to see if I can find it. that is really useful addition, especially if you have tons of users to recreate.

Derrick has his modified version of these scripts in his blog here http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/derrickl/archive/2005/12/04/8484.aspx

look under the 'supporting scripts' section.
