You referring to the critical security patches? If so, these happen almost every month. We get the list from our TAM each month, we then deploy to the environments a few days later. It's so regular that we've got procedures in place.

They acted like this was a big deal....they sent out this

The Company has learned that a high-risk vulnerability related to The Microsoft Windows Operating System has been discovered. Microsoft has released an urgent security bulletin addressing their concern.

That happens almost every month! If you are a premier MS customer, you should be receiving this information directly from your TAM each month a few days prior to them being announced.

In May, there were 2 critical patches released. In June, there were 8. In July, there were 5. We haven't received the August information yet, but it should be coming shortly.

yep, had to skip 2 project meetings and spend 1 hour overtime with 30 minutes of lunch break...

it broke 3 of our sql servers (corrupted registry), funny how the patch modified the port numbers

the person who applied the patch vehemently denies that it has something to do with it...it happened after the patch then reboot noh?

anyways, always have your backups close and ready for restore just in case

We did run into a corrupted registry as well after the patches from June, I believe. It was on a SQL Server, but luckily on one where I only help out with the sysadmin work. They had contacted MS to help rememdy the situation but weren't able to resolve it, so they were stuck with rebuilding the server from scratch then restores (large databases on this one, luckily have Litespeed). There were quite a few patches rolled out that night, so I'm not sure which one caused the issue.

The code red is probably MS06-040. They are sending this one out to all of our boxes immediately, according to the e-mail that I just got. MS released it as a critical patch, however my company increased the level to severity 0.

We're running an emergency update right now on MS06-040.

Big pain, everyone is acting like the sky is falling.
