Here is the scenario we are rebuilding a SQL server and the version was at 8.00.818 but I cannot get to that particular build. If I don't I cannot find a way to restore the Master DB from backup ?

Any ideas ? I have tried applying the password patch and ms-031 patches but that still did not get me there ????

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

818 corresponds to ms03-031 security hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821277/). It seems like you tried to install that already, but I am wondering if you installed SQL Sp3a first. MS03-031 requires that SP3a already be installed before you can apply the hotfix.

Yes I did install that but after a full uninstall and reinstall using Enterprise version - I was able to get it up to version 818 and restore the Master as I needed to.

Thanks
