Why do you need to reindex and update stats every night? Is your database go through heavy volume of changes everyday?I think these operations are more appropriate to do on weekly basis.Harsh AthalyeIndia."Nothing is Impossible" |

It'll hurt performance while it's running but shouldn't otherwise. It may cause an execution plan to change for the worse but that would probably happen eventually anyway.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

"I think these operations are more appropriate to do on weekly basis."I don't agree - if you have a quiet slot overnight why way a further 6 days, potentially, before you reinstate decent performance?Having said that we use DEFRAG and only on tables that show as sufficiently fragmented to warrant it.But we do update stats on all tables every night.Kristen |
