"can you give details on what TOAD is?"
In short TOAD is a species of amphibians. There is lots of information here. And even a nice picture of TOAD.

"what TOAD is?"

TOAD is a free (I think) tool for Oracle (and probably other DBs) that is similar to Query Analyser IME.

Some of my Oracle-also-using clients use Toad.

What I don't understand fully is that they pay $000,000 for their Oracle licenses and then feel the need to use a freebie query tool. I haven't user SQL*Plus (or whatever the equivalent Oracle tool is) in years, but I'm struggling to believe that Oracle don't have a half-decent Query Analyser equivalent.

Mind you, plenty of folk not happy here with the newfangled SQL2005 replacement GUI tools

Oracle has the tool called as Oracle Workbench which has the GUI and its quite cool compare to SQL Plus Utility where most of the time you have to do ED and type a query.

Personally i had downloaded once SQL Server Toad, but didnt found it much efficient then QA and Enterprise manager, may be becuase i am very much use this tools.

I'm a creator of fashion, not a follower, so I don't want to be a Toad like the rest of you

yeah there is a Toad for SQL but it's not as great as Toad for Oracle. Plus I hate those bastards. They bought out Imceda, the Lite-Speed guys, who also made Speed SQL IDE which I've been using for years. It totally thrashes SQL Analyzer... but they dumped it and won't support it for SQL 2005.

"Speed SQL IDE"

Do folk have views on useful, lightweight, SQL Query Tools? (Other than the Microsoft offerings I mean)

Toad perhaps?
