what components do I need to install on my laptop so I can SQL Enterprise Manager so I can connect to the database remotely.

When you run the install program, choose install "Client Tools Only". The next screen will present you with a checklist of the items you can install in each group. You'll need at least Client Connectivity and the Enterprise Manager item. It's a good idea to include query analyzer and Books Online/Documentation.
