I don't need SQL Server 2005 on my workstation (yet). I do need 2005 Books Online. Microsoft lists a prerequisite of .NET Framework version 2.0. But it doesn't say how to find out if I have it on my machine. It lists a whole bunch of prereqs for SQL Server 2005 and, again, doesn't say how to check them out. Well, it does say I can download the upgrade advisor, but that won't install on my XP machine.

Can someone tell me how to look to see if I have .NET and, if so, what version? Or point me to a website that can help?

You don't have to worry about whether you have .NET framework and its specific version...When You try to install desired components, it will check for prerequisites and tell you if don't have one.

But FYI, you can check the .NET version on your machine by taking a look at following directories:

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\ (if WinXP)
C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\ (if Win2K server)

You will see the folder for each version of the .NET framework on your machine.
