First time creating a job in 2k5...

But whenever I say "Ok" to create the job I get:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------

Unable to cast object of type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.SimpleObjectKey' to type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Agent.JobObjectKey'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK
------------------------------

I did upgrade to sp2 ?

Sometimes it just amazes me...did you read my post even?

I stated that I applied SP2 with NO luck. Please please read the post before giving an answer like "SP2 solved it".

Sometimes it just amazes me... did you read my post even?

I stated "Are ALL patches applied properly" not just SP2.

The error seems to be a Microsoft glitch from the information I gathered from all articles I read pertaining to your error. Therefore the best(Normally Only) option to resolve a software glitch is to make sure ALL PATCHES and Updates are applied. Just applying SP2 does not mean you are 100% up to date with all patches and updates. It was a longshot, but I figured since no one else had given you any sugestions, I would post it to hopfully assist you. Considering how I was trying to help you out, and how I would've been happy to clearify if you would've asked. It's dissapointing that you want to be a smart ass. Because of that attitude, I'm now more then happy to tell you to go f*ck yourself.

Your Welcome.

You would think that a certain number of posts would constitute an understanding of how to google things. Vinnie, I read all those articles, I'm not a n00b!!! I know how to upgrade, and patch...

It would've been nice to get a "I did't mean for it to come out like that, thanks for trying to help anyways.", rather then post a statment to try and justify your attitude.

Your justificaion makes little sense. You in essance stated that if someone finds information that may assist you on another site (via a google search), don't post it because you would've already seen it.

If that's really your justification and you believe it, you would've been able to see microsoft response to this issue posted at

https://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1098637&SiteID=17
Stating: "the problems are in the original setup, there is no way for us to address them in a service pack. We have, however, added this issue to the work items for our next major release. "

You probably would've also saw on google that the work around that most people are able to use is to submit the job via another machine.

And probably would've also seen the aricle stating that rolling back both the service packs also seems to resolve the issue.

And finaly You yourself would've likley realized it was a issue with microsoft and submitted the question in one of their forums, followed by submitting the actual issue to their support team. SQLteam logically would've been the third choice since the error is unanimously considered to be related to software either not installed, not running, or a error within, meaning it had no relation to T-SQL which is the forum you posted in (supprisingly all information was found via google).

The bottom line is I used my time to try and assist you with your issue, rather then just asking for clarification or stating that it didn't help so we could investigate further, you wanted to be a smart ass. I've come accross a lot of IT people in my carreer, and for some reason certain ones carry a attitude similiar to yours of trying to belittle other peoples comments in order to present a facad of how intellegent they are compared to you. I guess this is why a lot of those people work for me. Your comments were not just, and it was completly uncalled for.

I guess the same could be said with my original response to you, but I wanted to make it extremly clear to you, that I felt there was no need for your response to be stated that way, and you could've went about it in a differant way.

Regards

Response 1: Check under your inflatable girlfriend.
Response 2: You left it at the Dungeons and Dragons tournament.
Response 3: Ask your mom if she took it from your room.

yes I know very immature, but a few of us at the office laughed from it :)

Cheers!

Yes I know I have taken it too far, I guess We're just slaphappy over on my end. We were just amused by the the statment you made of "You would think that a certain number of posts would constitute an understanding of how to google things", because we have a guy over there that kept saying that in the voice of the Comic book guy from the Simpsons. Then did the same with this one "Vinnie, if your office personnel find that funny...you guys really need lives cause that's hardly funny.".

No hard feelings, I guess you don't feel as if there was anything wrong with your post, and I feel that I got to say what I wanted to.

On a serious note though, did you find your button?

There are a few people no matter how nice you are either take it the wrong way or just plain inconsiderate. These people are comfortable in the basement where it's dark, damp and secluded.

But anyhow, I found this that helped me on another forum.

Here's what I did to get it to work.

On our SQL Server 2005 development machine, we did install SP2
however, that doesn't solve the problem because the problem lies in scheduling your job using Management Studio through your local machine. If you logged onto your SQL 2005 server that has SP2, you should be able to schedule from there. But it's through Management Studio, which I'm guessing most of you are trying to create a job schedule for your packages. Usually, people don't think of upgrading their client tools as well.

I verified this by upgrading my local machine to SP2 for the client tools and was able to successfully schedule. You might also need to upgrade your server machine to SP2 to work as well.

I hope this helps.
