Microsoft announced at the partner conference today that SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and Windows Server 2008 will launch on February 28th, 2008 in Los Angeles. I read in another blog that the products would RTM and ship before the end of the year. My best guess was that SQL Server 2008 would arrive in November 2008. It appears we'll see it much sooner than that. It appears this will be a smallerrelease than I thought it would be. I guess that's to be expected given given how long SQL Server 2005 took and how many features were included.

The two messages can be consistent. Remember that Vista was released in Nov 2006 (for volume licensees and MSDN subscribers) and officially launched Jan 2007.
