 high volume DB performance problems

Hello ,i am a master student and i am making a seminar about high volume DB performance problems ,example : if i have a table with length of 1000000 record and this length is growing exponentially by the time,what the problems may i face in insertion ,deletion , search,in such table?? and what the problems in processing such DB in general

well with proper indexing growth isn't much of a problem search wise.
your backups can get large, index maintainance gets longer and longer.
you can solve this with horizontal partitioning of the table based on a date or some other value.

inserts, updates and deletes can cause significant page splits so you have to rebuild or defragment your indexes probably on a daily basis.

of course all of the above depends on the specific case.
