I need a method in which I can "find" all Windows servers running SQL Server Enterprise or Standard. I need to know which server is running which edition of SQL.

Is there an automated way of doing this?

This free tool will be helpful for you.

You can make SQL Server list (including some basic information) from this tool.

If you want to do it in a programming way, you can use WMI (or SQL WMI).

It would be quite easy to accomplish this using Powershell.
