About 2-3 months back, I was shopping with my family in the mall. one guy came infront of me and asked whether i want to make money on top of what I have. He kept on explaining about how people became rich in 2 years. I knew it was scam so i said 'I m not interested in becoming millionaire nowdays'.

So anyone faced similar situation while shopping?

I don't think Avon is an MLM, is it?
But Amway and Quixtar certainly are. Amway has to change the name under which it does business every two or three years as people catch on to its racket.

Yep I've been approached quite a few times.. and I have trained myself to be hostile when strange people approach me..I can easily pick up the genuine ones from the scammers..I am not sure about others but I have seen quite a few indian guys doing this..and they were dumb enough to get stuck in it so they are out to find more dumber ones..if you make the mistake of giving them your phone number or address or even email expect torture...I've even had to ask people to leave my house one time (my wife let them in thinking we'd make some friends in the new neighbourhood we just moved into).

The Starbucks where I play chess on Thursdays is frequented by MLM sharks "interviewing" new candidates. They'll be on one side of the room laying on thick coats of buzzwords, while we are laughing and snickering on the other side of the room. On a few occasions I've walked over and warned the candidates. The interviewers don't appreciate that so much!

acctually that's wrong.
amway is by definition not a classic pyramid system which is illegal in my part of the world
and amway works quite well.

maybe we should define what are we talking about when we discuss amway. the company itself has i think around 8 different channels of sale. one of which is netwrok 21 which is preset and allowed here.

...as long as you do not consider the employees as part of the company.

Amway is an MLM, which uses a loophole in the laws to avoid being classed as a pyramid scheme. Its business model is exactly the same as a pyramid scheme, except that it trades "product" instead of direct cash.

I worked with an Amway true believer who kept trying to get me to buy from him.

I would call him occasionally to order toothpaste to get him to drive half an hour to deliver a single tube. He was self deluded enough to believe that it was worth it because I would eventually turn into a big customer. It took him a long time to catch on.
