I'm trying to help a coworker t-shoot a SQL issue. SQL craps out every morning around 3am. This started 6/30/09, right after Windows Updates installed and we booted the server.

MS Windows 2003 Server Std Ed. SP1

Here is what I have found thus far:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event ID: 1023
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition - Update 'Hotfix 3310 for SQL Server Database Services 2005 ENU (KB960090)' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\SQL9_Hotfix_KB960090_sqlrun_sql.msp.log.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event ID: 10005
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition -- Error 29565. SQL Server Setup cannot upgrade the specified instance because the previous upgrade did not complete. Start the Remote Registry service and go to Add/Remove Programs, select the Change button for Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then select SQL instance MSSQLSERVER and complete the setup.

I also have the SQL9_Hotfix_KB960090_sqlrun_sql.msp.log, IF anyone wants to see it. We have NO IDEA why the install is failing. I tried running it manually. I also tried re-running everything (downloaded since 6/30) in the MSInstaller folder.

One small thing I also noticed. The boot drive has 800Mb of space free - no more.
