| I'm just scratching the surface with SQL and had a few basic questions. I'm basically a web designer getting a bit more comfortable with using databases.I have a virtual private server with a host using Win 03 Server, Virtuozzo 3.5 /Plesk 7.5. After much trial and error in not being able to mount a virtual cd to install SQL I was able to install and add SP4.The only thing I really plan to do is use enterprise manager and create databases for use with apps like DotNetNuke, Mambo and other open source CMS etc. I went with SQL 2000 STD Server as I learned that over time MSDE has limitations on concurrent users.questions- do I need to have the sql manager (small background app in the sys tray) running?- what can I use to defrag the database and does this really help performance- is running SQL 2000 STD on the same box as webserver with plesk too much? At best I’d have 3-5 databases with max 50 users at one time on a box with dual P4 xeon 2.8 with at least 400mb ram. The server has 6gb but I am one of many on the box which the host guarantees at least 386mb, which is scary actually since Win 03 Server wants more than that just for itself I presume.thanks in advance |
