Can anyone tell me some good books and online resources for good database concepts like (database design, complex nested queries, dervied tables etc)

Ken Henderson's books should fit the bill for you. Hang around these forums, they are great for improving your knowledge of SQL Concepts as well as their efficient use. Check out some other sql related sites such as http://www.sql-server-performance.com/ and http://www.sqlservercentral.com/
