Hi I'm new to this Transact-SQL game and wanted to know why @@ was used for some defined functions and not with others? Like the function @@CONNECTIONS and COALESCE or POWER?

I guess the next question becasue my first was so basic is where on the web can I find a free intro guide?

Cheers

Books Online can tell you all about them, it's already on your Start Menu.

The big difference is that the @@ functions never accept parameters, while regular functions can. Some don't (getdate()) but most of them do.
