Does anyone know how to count the number of items in the page and print it on a page summary? or maybe a hidden textbox to hold a value for computation?

for example, the page footers on page 1, 2 and 3 should say

there are 21 items of item A on page 1
there are 11 items of item B on page 1
there are 38 items of item C on page 2
there are 20 items of item D on page 3

at the end of the report, it should say

there are a total of 90 items in the report, the breakdown as follows:
21 items of A
11 items of B
38 items of C
20 items of D

EDIT: changed the result

Sounds like you want some sort of Group By / Summary thing. I suspect getting what PAGE they are on is gonna be tough.

You can get the page number from Globals!PageNumber. To get the counts though, I think you are going to have to do that inside a query. Then you'd have another table in the report that points to this query that contains the information that you need.

So you're suggesting that from the result set of the query, I'll add another column to find out what page it will go to? Yes, that's tough . And what if the user changes paper size (as in from A4 to Letter)? Does that mean I'll have to populate teh column dynamically just for this report?

I was suggesting a whole nother query. But yes that would be difficult to get if they changed paper sizes. It doesn't seem RS can do this for you.
