Why do you want to delete the log file?

I am not saying I would like to delete all, I would like to delete only 6 months old items.

So what do you mean old log then? Are you just talking about data in a table? If so then a DELETE with the appropriate WHERE clause will do it. If that's not what you are talking about, then please be more significant.

That is too funny. I type very fast and sometimes type different words than I was thinking. I should reread my posts to make sure what I wanted to say is what I typed.

...then please be more specific.

Do you mean the error log?
Do you mean the transaction log file (.ldf) of one of the databases?
Do you mean a log table?

My wild stab in the dark would be that he wants to delete stuff that is more than 6 months old.

i concur, he he he

in addition, are concerned with an increasing log size which is why you want to delete the "old log"?
