Hi all,

I restored a Database with TEMPRRORY1 using the Virtual Device set concept.Although both TEMPRRORY1.mdf and TEMPRRORY1.log files are created ,restore process exited with error

"Msg 3241, Level 16, State 109, Server SERVER1, Line 1
The media family on device 'VIRTUAL_DEVICE' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media"

When I tried work on the DB TEMPRRORY1 which is restored with some error, Query analyser shows the foolowing error
" Database 'TEMPRORY1' cannot be opened. It is in the middle of a restore."

Please tell what i have to do to overcome this 3241 error , If it is not error how to make my DB operational.

Regards.,
Sridhar

Hi,
plz check if its in (loading....) stat ! if its in (loading...)state then run
restore datbase with norecovery
BOL SAYS
quote:
NORECOVERY

Instructs the restore operation to not roll back any uncommitted transactions. Either the NORECOVERY or STANDBY option must be specified if another transaction log has to be applied. If neither NORECOVERY, RECOVERY, or STANDBY is specified, RECOVERY is the default.

SQL Server requires that the WITH NORECOVERY option be used on all but the final RESTORE statement when restoring a database backup and multiple transaction logs, or when multiple RESTORE statements are needed (for example, a full database backup followed by a differential database backup).

hi activecrypt,

Thanks for ur reply .

Problem caused to me is due to .bak file which process didn't write last
1024 bytes.
I had fixed the problem by restoring file with out any corruption and data loss.
