Hi There,

In SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Manager was rewritten and renamed to Management Studio. If ISVs (independent software vendors) could plug their SQL Server tool(s) into Management Studio – creating a single environment for you to work in – which tools do you use that you’d like to see surfaced in Management Studio.

SQL LiteSpeed (big one), Lumigent Log Explorer, and a modeling tool like Embarcadero because the one with Management Studio sucks (not complaining though....at least you decided to include it). All the Quest tools are kewl also. What about the red-gate stuff? This is kind of a broad question Dan.

Derrick (aka MeanOldDBA),
Thanks for the feedback. I agree this is a broad question, but I wanted to cast a wide net to see what I'd catch.

Dan-

Can't think of any extensions besides what Derrick has already mentioned, but I would really like to see Management Studio's performance improved. Ditto for the BI Studio; too often I want to run up a simple query or data import and it takes over a minute for the app just to START. By that time I've opened QA, run the query, got the results, and moved on.

FYI you may want to check the private MVP newsgroups too, there is a recent thread in SQLServer entitled "Worrying post in .programming" that has a number of other complaints/requests/concerns from quite a few people. I can't speak for everyone, but adding even more stuff to Management Studio (that could possibly make it slower) is not the first thing I'd like to see.
