Igor writes "Hello!

We are planning following setup for our production SQL Server:

OS - Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
16 GB RAM
4 Dual-Core CPUs 64 bit

I was wondering if anybody is running SQL Server 2005 on Dual-Core 64
bit CPUs. Are there any know issues with this? Would it be better to with
Intel or AMD?

Thank you in advance,
Igor "

Dunno the answer to that, but what disks you are getting? - how many channels, how many disks?

there are no known issues. btw, SQL 2000 can run on the x64 dual cores with SP4.

If your using 64bit processors are you not using 64 bit os?

I`m doing a project similar to yours and we are using AMD procesors with Windows 2003 Enterprise X64 edition so we can natively access the memory.

We found AMD faster and cheaper but have had alot of hardware problems in the first 4 weeks with each HP AMD box we have bought with the memory and system boards failing. After replacement they have been fine though. Have not experienced these types of problems with intel boxes.

we have 8 of the 64bit AMD boxes and have not had any problems with the memory or mainboards (4 DL385 and 4 DL585 from HP). The only hardware problem we have had so far is a failed emulex HBA. We have had them in production now for 3 or 4 months.

Thanks for the feedback! Its good to hear that you have had no problems as i was starting to think that the servers had fundamental problems. Not good when we are considering buying another 50 DL385's once our testing is signed off.

Will still be taking our h/w issues up with our HP account manager but feel slightly more confident now.

Cheers
