Essentially, you type in SELECT @@VERSION in Query Analyzer and it tells you a bunch of numbers. Then you lookup with service pack is associated with those numbers.

Note that the service pack information returned by select @@version is of Operating system in which SQL Server is installed.

To know SQL Server's Service Pack

Select SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel') as SP
