Hello, Im new so please be gentle. I'm just in the midst of studying for the SQL2K admin exam, and was going to to the Design exam straight afterwards. Ive heard that a person is much better off learing T-SQL before doing the design exam, is this the case? I will learn T-SQL anyway, but I'm wondering if learning before the design exam will make life easier for me?

Thanks for reading.

Hahaha

Yes, you must learn it.
Why the hell are you going for the exam if you don't know any SQL ??????????? That's like saying, "should I learn to operate a motor vehicle before doing a driving test ?".

Why am I taking the design exam before learning t-sql? Well, I dont know to what extent T-SQL features in the exam, I thought it might be a case of t-sql being present in the exam, but does not require a good knowledge of it. Example, in a windows exam, somtimes you only need to know what something does ( like certain AD tools ) rather than having to know how to use them, because that is covered in a later exam. I have purchased a good book to learn T-SQL from, so I guess I will go through it in-between exams.

Damian, thanks for taking the time to answer. I take it you are refering to the Design exam, I think I may have anwsered your question, but if you are referring to the admin exam, well, I have to start somewhere.

Madhivanan, thank you very much for the links.

You are right, you do have to start somewhere, what Damian is saying is that T-SQL is the main backbone of SQL Server, so if you are learning SQL Server, the best place to start is by learning T-SQL. The best way to learn is follow the links posted by Madhivanan. After this you will get the idea..

Another good way to learn is set up a trace file to capture the SQL Enterprise manager uses whenever you do something with the GUI..
