I know there is LTRIM and RTRIM but is there a TRIM or something equivalent as in VB which will TRIM both ends at once ??

I don't believe so, but you can do them both at once like:
LTRIM(RTRIM(string))

TRIM(string) trims from left and right at the same time... in VB that is... hehe... maybe it's of no relevance though
