I am familiar with the SQL Enterprise Mgr for 2000 - my company will be bringing up one 2005 server soon and I am setting up a new workstation - my question is: Can I install a client tool from 2005 that will still see the 2000 servers? is there anything I won't be able to do (on 2000 db's) with the Object Explorer that seems to be the replacement?? Will Enterprise Mgr for 2000 see a 2005 Server?
During the machine check in the setup for 2005 it looks for IIS, is this required for the client tool on a workstation? Any good articles specific to client tools?

Thanks

Yes, client of SQL Server 2005, i.e. SSMS(SQL Server Mgmt Stdio) can view all the database of SQL Server 2000.

No, you wont be able to connect throught EM, but yeah with Query Analyser you can connect.

What a mess the installer is, try and find how to just install the object explorer - The SQL Server Configuration Manager that I got installed is useless, there should be a completely separate installation freely downloadable from MS that covers management of db's from a workstation.

Hello, I'm still trying to figure out the option(s) to use;
In the installer Feature Selection I am reading the descriptions
of:

Database Services
Analysis Services
Reporting Services
Notification Services
Integration Services
Client Components
Documentation, Samples, etc.

Under these selections I don't see anything that suggests
an SQL Server Management Studio or anything similar.
Does anyone know what item gets me just the management
utility? I have installed the Client Components but when
I look in my Start Menu I don't see what I'm looking for.

Thanks
