Cannot open a database while in Enterprise Manage r.
I got an error message when I open a server.

ERROR MESSAGE:
A connection could not be established to Win-2000-Server.
Reason: Cannot open user default database. Login failed

Please vrify SQL Server is running and check your SQL server registration
properties(by right clicking on the Win-2000-Server node and try again)

Have the sysadmin of your server change your default database to master.

Hi tkizer.
I am the sysadmin. The SQL 2000 Server is on the same hard drive as the
Windows 2000 Server that I am running.

Console Root --> Microsoft SQL Servers --> SQL Server Group --> WIN-2000-SERVER -->
I DID NOT SEE ANY DATABSES. Therefore I cannot select a Master database as
a default database

Are you using the sa account or just a sysadmin account?

I do not know Which account I am using because I cannot see any object underneath
WIN-2000-SERVER within "SQL Server Enterprise Manager". There is nothing here.
Everything has disappear.

The information about connected servers are missing from the registry. Restore your registry, the part about sql server.
Or re-register the servers manually.

Right click on your server in EM, go to Edit. Let us know what it says.

I take it that this isn't a new question from this poster.

EM is a GUI tool. Sometimes lost conexion without any reason.
Since you are SysAdm, I suggest to reinstall SQL tools.

1) What is the specific name of the SQL tools ? Is it "SQL Tools" ?

I remember that I ran a trial version of "Registry Mechanic 5.2" by PC Tools Software
today and that is why I am having a problem running SQL 2000 Server, since tkizer
mentioned about the registry information is missing.

I try to install SQL Server

SQL Server 2000 Components --> Clicked on "Install Database Server", but it said

Set up initialization error. Access is denied.
Source f:\x86\setup\sqlspre.ini
Target: D:\Winnt\temp\setupswl.ini

"I never mentioned anything about the registry."

Yeah, but at least you are in this thread having your name taken in vain, unlike:
