Amit writes "i have sql server 2000 installed in my pc. i took a full backup of my database "home" including its transaction log.
then i uninstalled sql server 2000 and formatted my pc.

After a week i again re-installed sql server 2000 and recreated my database "home".
Can i recover my database "home" using the backup that i had taken before formatting my pc?
if no why?"

"Can i recover my database "home" using the backup"

Yes

"if no why?"

Well ... if the backup file is corrupted all bets are off ....

It would have been better to do a trial restore to a new, temporary, database (preferably on a different machine) BEFORE formatting your PC ...
