Hello, I am a begginer with SQL and this is my first post here.
I have been required to install an application that is based on a MSDE2000 (service pack 3).
It works fine on workstations running Windows 2000, Windows XP, Server 2000 however I have been told that it will not run on SERVER 2003 R2 due to incompatibility issues.
So far I have non conclusive results. A friend of mine installed the application on a Server 2003 R2 and it didn't work.
A few days ago I did the same installation and it has been working fine.
My question is. Is it true that MSDE 2000 is NOT COMPATIBLE with Server 2003 R2 ?
I have searched the entire Microsoft support site and other sites about SQL but haven't found any conclusion.
Thanks

I think it should be compatible. however mainline support for MSDE and 2000 is ending soon, april 2008 I heard. That means no more service packs or hotfixes after that point.
Perhaps you should think about upgrading to 2005, there's also a free version called SQL Express 2005.
