All,

just a quick question here relating to SQL Service pack 4 and MS Server 2003 data centre edition (32 bit).

I am currently trying to persuade my company that we need to install service pack 4 onto our sql servers as we have been having a few issues recently which this will resolve.

I raised all the paper work, but it was rejected as on the MS website for the service pack :

the 32 bit edition is not explicitly mentioned in the System requirements, only the x64 version.

Do any of you have Service Pack 4 installed onto the 32 bit edition of MS Server 2003 Data Centre? if so did you have to do anything special to get it to work, or was it out of the box?

Personally, i can not see any reason why a MSSQL update should work on the x64 version, but not the x32 one. however, I have been known to be wrong before!

Thank you in advance for your help.

Muppets!

But actually I see this slightly differently:

Assuming "mission critical" (as compared to "Mickey Mouse") then my process would be:

Install on QA server.

Run complete set of QA tests.

If no issues hand over to users for their User Testing and Acceptance.

If Accepted proceed with RollOut.

Q.E.D.

Contact MS directly to find out if it is compatible with your OS.
