No. In order to restore a differential, you must first restore the full backup.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |

No, that's not how backups work. Please see BOL for how differentials work.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |

The verify option doesn't do what you think. The only way to truly verify if a backup is restorable is to restore it. That's why you should be doing this regularly in a test environment to ensure you can recover data. I'd suggest opening a case with MS immediately to see if they can fix your corrupt backup file. Spending the money for them to help you on this is better than losing everything.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |

Typically it's due to hardware issues.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |

Update!!!!Yes, it was a hardware issue. Come to find out, there is/was a weak sector on one of the hard drives in the raid.It was good enough not to flag in the raid, but it was soft enough to not work.Long story short - spend the cash on better drives!!!!thanks for you help!!take caretony |
