Hi all
running SQL Server 2000 on Win 2000 Servers (got two of them)
I need to install some mail support because im having disk space issues lately. Anyways i have a smtp server on this network ready to go but i am having quite a time getting mail profiles hooked up.
i tried the following

1. Control Panel > Mail (oops no mail icon there)
2. Installed outlook express and created a mail profile (still no mail icon in cp)
3. Went back to Ent manager. Support Services > SQL Agent Mail - still cant see any profiles i created on the computer.

i read somewhere i need Outlook 2000 or better to work with SQL Server 2000 is this true? My servers do not run office (as they are database servers) do i need to purchase Outlook 2K just to get simple Mail alerts set up? Any alternatives or workarounds?

TIA,
mcm

nope that's what you have to do... install outlook...

you might create a windows service that you install on your db servers that performs the checks and sends emails using SMTP.

One option to send mail without using Sql Mail is by cdosys mail.
And if you want your sql mail working, you need MS Outlook installed (not outlook express).
