 Meaning of *= in query

Hi foks!

What does the sign *= do in a query?
Here is an example:
from table_1 cr , table_2 cp, table_3 es
where cr.id = cp.id
and cr.id *= es.id

This code is not mine but I yust want to learn the basics.

Use ANSI join syntax in your queries. instead of *= , use LEFT JOIN
