Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

I recently took it. It had first section of 40 questions which is purely objective type and second section consisting of 12 simulations. The total time for exam was 2 hrs 45 mins. Simulation was mostly dealing with usage of management studio.

I passed with 88% marks. The objective portion had questions from installation of SQL server, upgradation, configuring mirroring,logshipping,... I think you can buy self paced training kit from MS to help you on this. The simulations were mostly performing simple configuration operations on SSMS like creating index, adding user roles, schemas,Analysing views,...If you have a good understanding of SSMS and its various uses then this will be really easy.

Hard to tell. I think MCITP is more appealing.

Anyway, MCITP is not possible without giving 70-431

I am doing the MCTS at the momment after doing some SQL 2000 Exams moved onto this one, I am also going to carry on to the MCITP after gaining the 70-431...but so far it doesn't seem that bad I do believe that its 40 multi choice questions and then 12 sims in SSMS 70% pass rate needed

Good luck anyway.

Yep for definate, I am in a company now working as an Analyst using SQL, Excel but I was taken on because I was doing the exams, and will be moving onto a Junior position after completing the MCTS , the MCITP is a good way to get into a junior position as it shows at least you have a good knowledge about the same as someone with a years experience.

I know one thing for sure dependent on the company, but alot of people like the fact that you are showing willing to improve your skills etc in your own time and your own choice not just because the company is going to pay for them

Hi

Ive just got the Microsoft 70-431 book and after doing a few exercises im a bit worried. Im a 100% complete newbie to sql and all the scripting scares the hell out of me, is there much of this in the exam? Im hopeing most things can be done in the SSMS with a few clicks if i have to remember all them scripts i might as well give in now :-(,
