Help! We have an SQL Database at 40G. My problem is when we are processing the sql backup to USB Seagate SATA External 120G it takes long time almost a day. We even cancell the process! But if we are backup on the same harddisk(where the database is located) it only takes 1 hr and half. Any suggestions?

Why don't you want to backup to the local disk? If it's because of disk space, then can you backup to tape? How about using SQL Litespeed?Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog

40GB is not a large database. I'd say that's medium-sized these days. Try dealing with databases that are measured in the terabytes.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog

There isn't really a way to improve your performance as long as you are using USB 2.0.But what you could do is backup your database to the local disk, compress the file (zip it), and then copy the compressed file to the USB device.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog
