hello all - i've got a question about the public role. ive defined a login on a sql server, and i see that is gets the public role by default. from what i've read that gives the ability to enumerate the database that are resident on that server. does that also give the ability to execute select statements against all db's?? if not, how would you go about building a special role for select-only capabilities across all db's on a server??

thanks in advance

The public role does not provide any permissions to objects. If you want select permission to be provided for a user, grant the user db_datareader role inside the database.

No, can't grant db access permission at server level other than adding login to sysadmin role. That's something you don't want to do.
