I need to add a new column to the result set and this new column is not a part of the result set.How can i do it?
Anyone can plz help me out...

just add it in like this

select old_col1, old_col2, old_col3, new_col
from some_table

this gives an error telling "invalid column name".

that was just an illustration, you need to replace it with your column name. UNless you give more info we can give only such generic solutions. please keep in mind that we dont have access to your system and dont know your table structures.
