I installed a second instance on one of my servers and can't seem to access it. I read that it needs to be referenced as default_instance\named_instance. Is this how it should be registered in SSMS?

I'm getting the following error

quote:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)

You can have only one default instance.. so any subsequent instances should be named..and you would access them with WindowsServerName\Databaseservername

its not defaultinstance\namedinstance..
it is windowsservername\namedinstance.. it happens that default instance name = windows server name.. but just to get the naming convention right..
