Hello All,

I’m storing resumes in a memo field in my database, and I would like to know what would be the best way to find the closet match.

Example: Lets say I’m looking for a candidate that has the closet to the below required/desired items:

- Bachelor degree Required
- Cisco Router Troubleshooting Required
- Routing Protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF) Required
- CSU, MUXES Required
- IP Voice Desired
- Data Circuit troubleshooting Required
- Frame-Relay, T3, T1.5. MPLS Desired
- CCNP Desired
- CVoice Desired

Does anyone know how to write a query for these search criteria? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have a look in Books Online for the PATINDEX function.

The tricky bit is determining your search criteria to pick all the matches up.

A better solution (although more work for data entry) is to have a reference list of all skills you look for (coffee making, car washing, brown nosing etc) and tag each candidate's record accordingly. Make the recruiters earn their money.... :-)

Cheers,

Tim
