I've been a programmer on and off most of my life. Unfortunately, I'm wired to think in sequential steps.

Unfortunately, it causes me issues with TSQL as I need to think in Sets rather than steps. This became obvious to me yet again in this post:

It's painfully obvious that I "solved" that problem in steps and visahk was thinking sets.

Can anyone point me to a good article or two concerning this paradigm shift I must make?

The first and most obvious answer is "think not in rows, think in columns".
