How do I remove special charact in the result set?

Dear all

Is is possible to remove special charact in the result set? I am using SYBASE data server

For example
select column_1 from table

output
4.2.1.E

I want to remove the .(dot) in the result set. (i.e. 421E)

SELECT REPLACE(column_1,'.','') column_1 FROM yourtable
